About The School

The School of Earth Sciences is one of the fundamental schools to be established with the inception of the University. The disastrous Killari earthquake of September 30 1993 created an urgent need for study of Earth Sciences in this region for a closer study of this phenomenon and to develop the expertise locally to have a closer interaction with the local populace in managing and mitigating this particular hazard. The School of Earth Sciences has been planned to include the disciplines of Geology, Geography, Environmental Sciences with other Earth Sciences for the optimum use of the natural resources of the area for its integrated development. The School offers specialization in Groundwater Geology, Environmental Geology and Geoexploration. Both the courses also have a project with applied orientation, which is run through all the four semesters, as essential part of the curriculum.

RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY

The School has Groundwater and Resource Management, Environmental Geology, Structure and Tectonics, Disaster Management and Geochemistry as priority research areas. The School Students are carrying out Air and Water Pollution and Traffic Management studies of parts of Nanded City under the project. Apart from this faculty of the School has been assisting Collector Nashik on seismicity related matters. School is also consultant to the Nanded-Waghala Municipal Corporation for flood related issues and solid waste disposal under "Waste to Energy" scheme of Government of India. School offers consultancy in Groundwater Exploration, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management and Geotechnical Services. Three Ph.D.s have been awarded for research under the School in Field of Geomorphology, Water Quality Studies and Environmental Impact Studies. Term of a DST project on imaging of seismogenic faults has just been completed and it is likely to be continued. Another DST project on studies on Gabbros of Andhra Pradesh is going on at present.

  PLACEMENT
The school has a placement cell for Environmental Technology Course. From 2001-2003 batch six out of seven students who appeared for placement were placed through this cell. Dr. J.D. Nikumbh is the placement coordinator for school of Earth Sciences.
